    The devs basically gave up on the idea of having a functioning economy when they got rid of full-loot PvP – that was supposed to be the basis of the original economy, that you dropped gear when you died and needed it replaced.

    One of many things that got “broke” when they switched the game from the original design.

    Reality is that a full-on PvE game that has gear that breaks isn’t attractive to PvE players, which is why PvE games generally have economies that are inflationary and in which consumables and novelty/specialty items play the main roles for profit making (other than AH arbitrage).
